Very nicely done. Makes me want to do a few writing exercises myself, just to get my creative gears turning again.

I have a couple of suggestions for other characters.

Since slavery was present in both the UK and America, I was thinking, that you might try writing from the view point of a slave ship captain, or perhaps a sailor who had more frequent contact with the unfortunate "cargo" in the ship's hold.

And, just to be controversial, write something from a terrorist's point of view regarding the 9/11 attacks in New York, or maybe something a little more recent, like attacks in Europe, or even in Afghanistan and Iraq.

My final suggestion is completely out of sync with my other ideas. In the States, a member of a rouge sect of Fundamentalist Mormons (Church of the Latter Day Saints for some) was recently convicted of forcing a girl to marry her cousin against her will while she was under-aged. Maybe you could try writing from the POV of a member of that Fundamentalist sect defending or explaining their beliefs (a major belief being polygamy).
