Random bit of amusing information:

JF kennedy once called himself a jelly doughnut on live television, he was talking in German and was saying somethign along the lines as 'I am from Berlin', the problem was that he said Berlina, which is apparently a slang term for a jelly doughnut.

Which explains who shot him, Homer Simpson.

In German, a person from Berlin and a jelly doughnut are both called a "Berliner", therefore he made no mistake (it sounds like "Berlina", because the German "r" isn't as "strong" as the English/American).
"Berliner" is simply an adjective and means "someone/something from Berlin".

Greetings from Cologne, where the (dialect) adjective for the city's name is also the name for the local type of beer.

Ah, thank you, I heard it from a friend so I was a bit off with the spelling. really funny though, i bet Germany must have laughed themselves silly.
