When I was younger, that is to say 13-15, my father was staying with a lady-friend in her flat near Kentish Town. It was a really nice place, but boring as hell. Most of my dad's stuff was in storage, including all the books and films I liked. One thing that was there though (because my father would only be separated from them with a crowbar) was his vinyl collection.
Don't ask me why I started listening to 'Tommy' by The Who, because I really can't remember. I migth have picked it out because the cover was cool, or my father might have because he liked it, but I liked it. in fact, I insisted on listening to it every time I came over. My most vivid memories of the place (other than being bored while my father watched TV and having a supernatural experience) are of sitting in the armchair with Tommy on and reading 'The Dreaming Jewels' (a book my father thought I'd like, he was right). I loved that albumn, but it was only recently I realised I'd been listening to the soundtrack to a rock opera about murder, drug use, paedophillia, child abuse, extortion, cults, insanity and other seriously ugly stuff. I kid you not. I won't say it was a shock, because I think even at age 13 I suspected there was something a little off about the whole 'Fiddle About' track.

However, I will say that 'Cousin Kevin' was very inspirational while writing Past Tense flashbacks.

Don't let this put you off the album though, it's brilliant.

Whatever, a random bit of Skull Bearer background.

(in case you were interested, the supernatural experience was much weirder, I was reading a book called 'Strange but True', which was about all these unexplained mysteries, UFOs, ghosts and so on. While I read an account about a haunted house, I reached a line 'there was a horrible scream', and at that moment the phone rang. It was right next to me and nearly gave me a heart attack. This was funny, but probably coincidence. The second was even more bizarre. It was later that night, I'd gone to my room and was reading in bed, still the mysteries book. That chapter was about poltergists, and had a newspaper clipping about lightbulbs in the house turning green, at that moment, my own lightbulb exploded)
