I was planning to have Erik's power being kept a secret from his family and have him be worried they'd find out about it and turn on him. But then I went LOL NO and had them find out about it straight off the bat because good luck hiding anything with this family and he's going to have a harder time hiding his MASSIVE CRUSH on Charles without adding mutant powers into the mix.

Thanks to Fic From Hell (which has hit a bit of a mid-Iron Man 1 block) just about everything's been on hiatus. But then I got on a Erik/Charles kick last night and went 'fuck it, this is my best work, it must be done'. So I wrote it and it has 13 year old Erik and Charles being cute and mutants and more than a little crushy in 1939 New York.

And it's kinda weird because this fic has Erik being the priviledged one with a crazy loving family and being kinda blind to how shit Charles' life is because he can't actually comprehend how anyone would neglect their children like that. And Charles being too proud and hurting to actually tell him and would rather educate Erik on the finer points of early American cinema and get him to cheat on slot machines in Coney Island.

Next chapter: September 1st, 1939. Dun-dun-DUN!

Now, it's a bit early to speculate, but might it just be possible that the first three X-men films are going to be presented as a dystopian future the cast of First Class desperately have to stop at all costs?

Because that would be eighteen kinds of awesome, right there.

Am seriously considering tying Past Tense into the wider Marvel 'verse (no spiderman or fantastic four though, I hate those guys), but Avengers is seriously tempting.

WTF brain? I always loathed that whole 'shared world' shite.

Seriously people, sorry for the wait.

Chapter 5 )

I saw it, it was great, I had a blast, I'm now slashing Iron Man/Captain America, etc. Same as the rest of the world (although it seems to be slashing Iron Man/Bruce Banner, but hey). Anyway, I saw the latest Big Picture by Moviebob (his stuff tends to be excellent barring his 'I am the new coming of Christ' take on computer games), which was mostly on explaining who owns the various movie rights for the Marvel heroes.

I mean, I know I should be getting annoyed at this that big corperations are churning out dross (or not so dross in the case of X-men) in order to hang on the the various character, but you know what? I'm over the goddamn moon.

While I like the comics to some extent I've always had some issues with them, and a major part is the whole shared world stuff. I'm a huge X-men fan, I like just about everything about it, particularly the issues and parallels of the whole mutant thing. These issues tend to be overshadowed and rendered a bit pointless when as well as having mutants you have Norse Gods, aliens, and who knows what else also runnign around, raising the question of why the mutant issue is such a problem in the first place. People ought to be used to this sort of thing. It's distracting and unhelpful, and on a purely personal note, I don't like having to buy some comic about the guy I couldn't give two bricks for to find out what's happened to a character I do like.

But the movie right have been proportioned out pretty much exactly right for my tastes. We've got X-men over here, being awesome. We've got Fantastic Four over here, which I awesome because I hate those guys regardless of comic or movie. We've got Spiderman over here, meaning I don't have to see any of his movies either. And we've got Avengers over here, who were always 'The Avengers' for me because I never could care to read their individual comics. They're cool, but int he realm of crossover less is definitely more.

Oh, and to add pleasantries to generally being chuffed, if Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are in the Avengers then not only can House of M never happen, I can continue pretending they don't exist becuase magneto totally doesn't deserve to have those bloated bladder-sacks to deal with, thank you.

And I realised I was turning Charles into a kid who was really into make-believe. That was fine, Erik had no problem going along with his oddball ideas, but I wondered why I say Charles as such a dreamer.

Then I remembered the Hogfather.

Death: Humans need fantasy to *be* human. To be the place where the falling angel meets the rising ape.
Susan: With tooth fairies? Hogfathers?
Death: Yes. As practice, you have to start out learning to believe the little lies.
Susan: So we can believe the big ones?
Death: Yes. Justice, mercy, duty. That sort of thing.

Summary: AU to Of Needles, a bit of an odd one, I was playing around with the last chapter of Needle when I thought 'what if Raven had managed to convince Charles to look for Erik after the war?' and the story was happy and lovely funtimes and generally way too upbeat for me, but this bit stuck in my head, so I wrote it. Drabble.

I still have no idea what I'm doing with this fic. It's just weird. Consider it a story about two fundementally broken people finding love together.

Diaspora

Chapter 4

Thank you for your patience! I've had this story beta ready by the brilliant Killslay, who brought it more in line with historical accuracy. The first three chapters have been re-written, available at my ff.net accound and here, here and here. Also, I've kinda screwed with the timeline here, so things are not going to be happening in movie-canon order. There will be Raven, but not for a while yet.

So I got the worst possible review on Diaspora, someone went on and tore the story to pieces for historical inaccuracy D:

BUT instead of bursting into tears, hiding under under my bed or writing a flame back, or abandoning the fic in the face of such horror (Historian. Being called historically incorrect is like being called a child molestor, only worse because the accusations were true) I decided it was time to be grown up about these things and demand the reviewer put her money where her mouth is.

I now have a brilliant beta reader ;D

Diaspora has been re-written and is only awaiting beta approval to be reposted, with a new chapter.

(if you're reading this, you have been fantastic and it's my fault I have a brittle ego)
