As yet unnamed fantasy fic fragment

"Mages with hands bloody from tearing out living stones from the Earth, trembling like copper rods in a thunderstorm."

Trying a magic system which runs on a ley-line basis, with wizards as living dowsing rods. It's wierd, but I'm starting to like it.

Sounds a little bit like how magic works in Harry Turtledove's Derlavai series. Though I may remember that wrongly, it's been years since I've read those books.
