I'm so conflicted. The thought of a Good Omens miniseries makes me want to squee for weeks, but then I remember the Sky One adaptations of three (technically four) of Pratchett's other books and I'm struck with foreboding ...

Didn't you like "The Hogfather"? Actually if it's the same people as that doing this, I'm really excited.

That said, I don't think their adaptations of "Colour Of Magic" or "Going Postal" lived up to that. (Though with "Going Postal" my main complaint is the ridiculous way that making the female lead start smoking was made out to be a bigger source of guilt than causing someone to commit suicide.)

My first reaction was "I am sooo not getting emotionally invested in this". First I heard that Terry Gilliam was making a movie of it and I was really excited. Eventually though, it became clear that it wasn't going to happen. After that, I'm generally inclined to be cynical.

I thought Hogfather was really good, but not great, which it could have been. The rest of my family found it pretty bad.

The Colour of Magic was decent as mindless entertainment, but it managed to be even more random, flaky and generic than the source material, and riddled with Deus Ex Machina to boot. Haven't yet seen Going Postal, but the only reaction to it I've heard so far wasn't encouraging.

So with that track record, and the fact that Good Omens is much dearer to my heart than any of the above, you'll excuse me for harboring misgivings.

Hope it comes to the Colonies. We're still waiting for Going Postal.

I'm torn between fangirling about this news and remembering a lot of book to TV (or movie) adaptions... probably aren't as good as the source. But still. *insert pun about the news being a good omen*
