Slightly more coherent trailer reactions

What I wanted:
Skeksis being awesome.
100. Fucking. Percent. Delivered. Fury Road Carriages! Swords! Armor! Battle scenes! The Skeksis are fucking this shit up and everyone had better stay at home! Hell yeah!
What I wanted but would be open to alternatives:
Loyalty to the World of the Dark Crystal book.
Ehh, really hard to tell from a two minute trailer but from what I saw it seems to be taking that interpretation. particularly since it seems like the gelfling and Skeksis are working together to begin with, which fits into the book’s take that the Skeksis weren’t evil, or at least not obviously evil, to begin with.
I really hope they explore more about how the Skeksis came to be and that they’re not just ‘the evil side’. The problem is that the Skeksis have a number of traits we see as ‘good; creativity, dynamism, the urge to create and built and make new things. The problem is that… well, all that kindness and friendship and caring sorta ended up in the UrRu so when the Skeksis started to go bad, they went really bad.
What I never knew I wanted:
Magictech.
Holy shit it blew me for a minute when I was watching all these crazy inventions but then it started to make sense. We do see these things in the original movie but they’re more- background. Skektek has his inventions and Aughra has her observatory so it does fit, but these seemed a lot more flash and prominent.
Which is fucking genius.
Because we’re hundreds of years in the past here, and seeing all these amazing and brilliant inventions in this time will give the original movie this worn out, almost post-apocalyptic feel, with the Skeksis living, like something out of Ghormanghast, in the ruins of their former glory.
Again, this is just coming from a really short trailer, but it was enough to make an impact. I’ve a feeling this might be divisive among fans, but right now I think it’s a great idea and gives this movie it’s own feel and sense of time.
What I’m totally okay with but other people might not be
Uhhh, we all know what’s going to happen, right? There’s not going to be a happy ending here. Everyone’s going to die, the Skeksis win, the world continues to slowly die until the events of the movie and all is set right again. I mean, unless they’re going to retcon the original movie but I- really, really doubt they’d do that? Please don’t?
I mean, I’m entirely there to see Skeksis slaughter cute elven muppets left right and center, but some of you still cry when the garthim come on.
When I never even imagined I could get
Please please please please let us see the making of the garthim ‘made from the dreams of sea creatures from their (skeksis) home world’. Please make this happen, I never realised how much I wanted it until it became a possibility.
Meh:
Gelfling were kinda interchangeable but then I was never a huge fan in the original so I’m fine being meh here. It’s all about the Skeksis at this end, folks.

Do Not Want
Okay, this is just a little pet peeve and by no means any kind of dealbreaker, but something I loved about the original was how- real the world felt. Not just because it was actually there but in minor details like the washed out colours and muted tones. Just contrast the slow panning shot of Jen in the jungle with any part of the trailer and you’ll see what I mean.
The trailer was this crazy vibrant mess that make it look like something out of Avatar. I know they’re having fun with CGI but- take it down a notch, please.
So yeah. I’m trying not to get too hyped but it’s really, really hard. This is the sort of shit I was dreaming up aged five and scribbling in the flyleaves of my Tintin books. Please let it have been worth the thirty year wait.
