cishetsbeingcishet:

yall as a trans man i know more than anyone that abortion laws impact all afab people, not just cis women, but like… this is predominantly and fundamentally a women’s issue.

i’ve literally seen posts that say people should stop saying stuff like “abortion is a woman’s right” because its trans exclusive or causes dysphoria or whatever and like. yall. no. it is not transphobic to acknowledge that abortion restrictions target women and are based in misogyny, because they are made with the lawmakers’ definition of a woman in mind, not ours.

like i highly value inclusive and gender neutral language and trans people should definitely ALWAYS be part of the conversation of reproductive justice and bodily autonomy, and when talking about pregnancy in general i think trans inclusive language should be used, but the (cis) men who create and back these laws do it for the express purpose of subjugating women, and they are running under the assumption that every women has a vagina and every person with a vagina is a woman. these laws are made to control women’s bodies specifically, even if other bodies are also put in danger.

i know people have good intentions but it is not transphobic to recognize that abortion as a political topic is a women’s issue. it is a matter of misogyny. it always has been.

I get it, but this is a wedge issue by transphobes and transmisogynists, so it’s not really safe to concede anything to them. It would be like saying ‘okay but some gay people are pedophiles’. Technically true, but do you want to be giving them that sledgehammer?
