I've hear do these mythical 'online libraries', but never had the joy of visiting one before now. Well, maybe joy is too strong a word, and I don't think the Cradle of Filth cover of Hallowed be thy Name is helping, but halfway down the first page and I'm already feeling depressed. Oh well, what else can you expect from Orwell? Especially when you've just finished watching Fahrenheit 9/11.

I swear, if I ever woke up to find myself living in that world, I'd throw myself out of a window.

Does anyone else think that calling that reality TV 'Big Brother' is a bit of bad taste? I mean, grief, Orwell would be shocked.

Or maybe not, he sounds like a pessimistic guy. Sometimes (when I have nothing better to do), I watch that show, although less now. I personally think that anyone who voluntees to work in room 101 while starring in a program named after something in 1984 deserves everything they got. And believe me, the girl volunteered. Turned out she had to sort maggots. In 1984 terms, she got off lucky. But then again, they couldn't do something like that on live TV, just in Guantanamo.

Couldn't read anymore. Thought I was going to be sick.

It's a great book to read when you don't know any better, but when you've been reading some media, and can draw the parallels... well, that's when throwing yourself out of the window starts to look tempting. I read it first when I really didn't know any better. Being old enough to appreciate Orwell does not neccesarily mean old enough to know that the political system is going straight down the toilet.

I want somehting to take my mind off things but some part of me is screaming that it is just people like me who stay sitting on their arses that let goverments like that take over, to which another part of my brain shouts back that what am I meant to do at five to eleven on a Sunday night? And so on and so on until I have aheadache and decide that Winston Smith had a good idea and rant about it in my livejournal. Not that anyone's going to be interested that is. Unless there really are thought police but I'd like to see them work through the internet!

Whatever. I'm off to play fighting Fantasy. At least these are enemies you can hit and no-one talking about neutralising to orgasm.

*shudder*
