Zombie night
Jul. 9th, 2007 01:59 pmConsisting of watching two zombie movies back to back. They were both brilliant in vastly different ways.
Dawn of the Dead (remake): Very cool, not as bad as I worried it would be, but it seems that where zombies are concerned, not even Hollywood can screw it up. But then, where zombies are concerned, plot isn't necessary for a good movie. All you need is good special effects (which there were in spades) and for all the characters to die at the end (which they did). If you get the DVD, don't miss out on the extras, they're excellent. My favourite is definitly the news broadcasts. And make sure you sit through the credits, it's very satisfying to see how everything still manages to go pear-shaped even after the movie's over.
Dead Next Door: The polar opposite of Dawn of the Dead, a zero-budget early 80s flick that was so unbelievably bad is deserves an oscar. The special effects were so fake that they weren't even disgusting, the zombies were by far the best actors ('Uhhhh...' doesn't take much acting, everyone with lines sounded like they were reading from the script, no emotions whatsoever), the plot had been eaten before the film started and the 'horror' had us rolling in our seats. I won't say it was the worst film I ever saw, because that would imply that I didn't enjoy it. I did, immensely. But it was probably not for the things the makers intended. My friends and I are so totally going to make our own zombie movie.
So yeah, great fun. I didn't even have to get all that drunk to enjoy it.
