Christmasy sort of day
Dec. 22nd, 2008 02:26 pmBought more presents, was kind and generous to my fellow man, buried the hatchet with the girl next door over the burnt pans, did washing, stitched up torn clothes, drank hot tea, taught myself how to use bittorrent and am currently watching a succession of productions of 'A Christmas Carol' s. I love that movie. I need to get the book.
Nice to have time out.
Am currently working to destroy the prejudice I have against Christianty because frankly when I look at myself there, I'm no one I want to know.
Feeling rather good today. I think it's because it's past the winter solstice and the days are getting longer.
The death of the year has come and gone, and we are now living the rebirth into warmth and daylight. The sorrow of the day before at the literally darkest moment of the year, and the joy of today which could well be the happiest day of the year, because thought the days are still short today they lengthen and will keep on lengthening for months on end. For the next six months things will only get better, to the final celebration of the summer solstice. And that will be the height of joy. But as the sorrow of winter is touched with joy that things wil get better now, summer is also tainted by the sadness that it cannot last, that from now the year it dying. Anyway, that's my favourite Christmas celebration, even though I can only really celebrate it a few days later. I sacrificed half a bottle of vodka to it yesterday ;-)
Anyway, have a merry run up to Christmas everyone. I am very fond of the holiday.
