Wood. Trees.
Aug. 21st, 2009 07:49 pmOkay, I'm reading this blog, which is great, btw, and while the bloggist is reviwing Maus (a very good Holocaust graphic novel that's won quite rightly about a million prizes) she says this:
Would she have killed herself even in a world without Hitler? Obviously it’s impossible to say, and on one level it’s really insulting: the woman went through Auschwitz, and I’m trying to imagine a world in which she didn’t?
Am I the only one who has no idea how this could be seen as insulting? It's one of those things where I think I've bludgeoned my sense of horror where the Holocaust is concerned so hard in the past few years that it died somewhere around Dachau and never came back.
Just curious, and since you seem to be relatively sane people I thought I'd ask.
