30 days of fanfiction 14/30
Jul. 31st, 2011 10:44 pm14 – Ratings – how high are you comfortable with going? Have you ever written higher? If you're comfortable with NC-17, have you ever been shocked by finding that the story you're writing is G-rated instead?
I can write just about anything, but I tend to rate high for explicit sex and/or scary shit because most of my stories have at least one or the other. Lowest rated is probably Diaspora, and even then although done from child!POV it's dealing with some pretty heavy shit so it's a PG. I tend to write sex scenes because people like them and I feel like I owe them a pay-off :), rather than because I like writing them (it's a constant battle to stop it sounding like 'put tab a into slot b'). A few exceptions, like the sex-scene in the last chapter of Past Tense, which I've been planning since forever and even have a soundtrack to (it's 'Autopilot' by Queens of the Stone Age, btw). But that didn't do anything for the rating as the whole subject matter had rammed it up to at least an R to begin with.
