On the plus side, Dethryl has finally updated his fic. Chapter 19, We-Hey!
If you don't know Dethryl's fic, shame on you. It's the only Harry Potter fanfiction I read at the moment, a very cool take on the old Harry-in-Slytherin idea. The best yet I think. It's called They Shook Hands, and it's just... great. Perfectly IC with everyone but showing a side to the characters not seen in canon. Harry has a character (Shock! Horror!) and it fits in perfectly. Dethryl's also not afraid to put some seriously AU elements, things that never happened in the actual HP books, yet still managing to tie in the threads (sometimes not particularly gracefully, but well enough that it isn't jarring). I side with the sorting hat on this one, Harry would have done well in Slytherin. Pity JKR's so prejudiced.
Still not off my I-hate-HP-canon binge, don't think I ever will be.
