I got pretty lucky this afternoon and came across a stall at the market selling lychees. Lychees, for those who don't know, are little balls of tasty goodness packaged in a crisp prickly shell. They've also been pretty rare this year, partially due to shipping costs according to the seller. They're pretty rare most of the time, but you usually get them around christmas. This Christmas was the only one I went without :'(
Anyway, this was resolved and I bough a pretty big box of them for £5. I've been eating them all evening and still haven't gotten through more than about a quarter, if that.
This is why I really like living where I do. It's really easy to eat well here.
One of the problems with eating healthily is that fruit and veg is so expensive. Oranges in Tesco are something like £2.50 for a bag of 6, so it's easier to eat cheap. I get most of my stuff from the discount section, but when it comes to fruit I use the many, many fruit and veg stalls scattered around my area. In a lot of places I lived these weren't there, which really limited my supply of fruit and veg.
What I'm saying is that a pack of lychees anywhere near the size I got would have cost me something like £20. Any they wouldn't be anywhere near as nice.
