I love the book, so when I saw there was a film I went OMGWANT and got it at once. It was... less than entirely faithful to the book, which was a shame as the whole post-Blastburn bit is my favourite and I can and often do just read it over and over again. And that was cut completely. It won back points by making the two leads less than total angels while still remaining likable and fun, and most of all by making Miss Slighcarp THE MOST AWESOME THING THAT EVER AWESOMED. Seriously, this woman ought to give lessons on awesome. Best thing in the film full stop. Those wolves at the end? Those howls were wolves getting their arses whipped.
Anyway, it was fun, I liked it. I wish they'd had more time to get everything in the book in, because that would be a truely classic kid's film in the vein of Little Princess and Railway Children. The sort of thing you'd be totally sick of because it would be on every Christmas but you'd watch it anyway because it's so much fun.
