Y'all: ugh I wish fandom content creators would post more 😩😩😩😩😩😩

Also y'all when someone posts fanart/fanfic/edits/etc:

look im not popular in any way when it comes to my content creating and i absolutely understand that more attention makes you feel good about the content you’re putting out but I think that one, depending on other people for your own drive to create content isn’t really okay. also there’s always going to be more likes then reblogs like I don’t know, I don’t think this is something worth complaining about.

The main issue here is that it didn’t used to be this way. At all. And I’m certain a lot of the people who are making a huge issue out of the like to reblog ratio are people who are been here for a while (like myself) and remember the days when reblogs dominated the hell out of likes.

Up until around 2016 or so, the like to reblog ratio was the total opposite of how it is now. And it applied on posts with fewer notes and posts with a large amount of notes:

You get my point. But over the last few years it has flipped completely:

And, of course, see OP’s screenshot.

It doesn’t take rocket science to figure out that the posts with more reblogs have an astoundingly higher amount of notes because of increased exposure. Reblogging allows more people to see the content, that’s more people to either continue reblogging or at least give a like. For artists in particular who would benefit from the exposure in terms of commissions and patreon and all of that, this is a huge deal. It can make all the difference.

Tumblr as a blogging platform was created with the intent to post and share content. It’s not meant to be a consume-only form of social media like Instagram. For fandom blogs in particular, it always boggles me that people don’t share content that they like. Tumblr was appealing for fandom in the first place because of the ability to plaster your blog with amazing things that other people made - this used to be unheard of. For me, it’s like saving something precious so you can always come back to it again. It’s giving the people who follow me something awesome to look at too. Creating and sharing content is the heart of fandom.

People rely primarily on their dash for content. Most people avoid going into tags/searches because of wanky fandom drama. So reblogs are crucial for exposure! Likes are a nice gesture, but they do nothing to help share and promote content. That’s why content creators are frustrated or moving to other platforms, or why they stop making content altogether. Tumblr has its issues, but it’s still one of the best places for exposure due to its reblog function and overall post formatting. It’s discouraging seeing content creators on Tumblr as a concept die off. This site is nothing without them.

We can enjoy making things as much as possible but when we share it and no one cares enough to show it to others, it does make us wonder why we bothered in the first place. And this isn’t a new complaint from content creators. But it has worsened over time as the likes started dominating the reblogs.

It’s not that we don’t appreciate likes at all, notes are notes. But reblogs equal more notes, which equals more exposure, which equals happy content creators, which equals more content for fandom to consume. It’s a wholly positive chain of events that circles back around. Your reblog could be a deciding factor on whether that content creator chooses to keep contributing or to give up entirely.

Reblogs mean the world to us. They can really brighten our day a whole lot.

yeah, it’s absolutely a result of cringe culture. the whole atmosphere on tumblr has changed radically. with cancel culture, the constant policing of fandom content, calling everything ‘problematic’, harassing creators for doing literally anything, and unmitigated sense of entitlement to other people’s work, it’s literally impossible to like anything without someone crawling up your ass about it. creators are afraid to create, and consumers are afraid to share.

Then it’s like a month later, and I’m just sitting there like, if I never speak to them maybe they’ll just forget I ever existed.

I vanish sometimes too and then get all avoidant about it. I’ll understand if you need to do the same, and I’ll be here when you come back. Aziraphale: *Beautifully braiding up a loaf with exquisitely flavoured and formed dough, not noticing that he has a chunk stuck to his hair. Asked for twice the filling ingredients he needed so he could snack* Just follow the recipe, dear.

Newt: *Somehow managed to double the recipe and doesn’t know how because he had exact measurements provided, has shorted out the oven twice while trying to create steam, and produces a tray of muffins*

Death: *Sadly holding a small, dense loaf.* The yeast died…

Adam: *Didn’t follow a recipe, measured yeast and sugars with his hand, stops halfway through the challenge to go chase a squirrel out in the park. Produces a technically perfect loaf. Makes Paul Hollywood sweat through his shirt.*

Fandoms I’m in

Better make this post know so people know what the fuck I post 99% of the time

Major Fandoms

DnD- I’m just a huge DnD nerd. I write campaigns and characters constantly and nothing can stop be because apparently I don’t burn out when it comes to DnD

DragonLance- Techinally also DnD, but I’m talking about the books here. I’m a huge Dragonlance nerd and yes I’m writing a letter to Wizards of the Coast for 5E Dragonlance books. Anyways I’m a huge huge huge Dragonlance fan, and will talk for hours.

Critical Role- I enjoy this DnD show so much!!! Ah!!! I’ve only watched the second season, and I’ve seen the first episode of Campaign one. CR really kicked off my DnD group and my passion for DnD got super reignighted. I’m a huge fan of all the characters, and the cast is great. (I tag spoilers for everything leading up to and past episode 26, cuz my brother watches cr and he’s only on episode 18-19 I believe.)

The Adventure Zone, All Campaigns- I also listen to TAZ! Just a great show, and I binged most of it while on a road trip. The headphones gave me an ear infection but the show is amazing and I’ve cried SEVERAL times. My favorite mini series is dust, but I LOVE the entire show. Actually got me into urban shadows as well!!

Puella Magi Madoka Magica + Spin offs- Lesbians. I love Magical Girl anime and manga, and I actually got introduced to Madoka because I grabbed it off a bookshelf ina rush to get manga at a bookstore. Basically it’s become a super important interest of mine because HOLY SHIT THE SUBTEXT. I also fucking LOVE magireco (Magia Record) and I’ve been grinding the newest event all day!

Dungeon Meshi/ Delicious in Dungeon- I just got into this manga but BOY OH BOY do I love it. It’s an interesting take on traditional fantasy manga and troupes, as well as a fun spin on cooking manga. I love it so much!!! I love the lore and the thought put into each of the dishes and dungeon levels, as well as the parties interactions with eachother. Plus gay subtext!

Pokémon- Do I need to explain this one or- I’ve been playing Pokémon as long as I’ve been on the internet, aka most of my life. It’s a very important series to me, and the content the fandom produces is just d e lightful. Sableye is my favorite Pokémon!

Homestuck/Hiveswap- I’m less active in this Fandom (Until act 2 comes out) but Hs is one of my longest standing fandoms (besides Pokemon!). I finished reading after the comic had ended, (ignoring epilogues hahahahhahahaha I can’t read them because it’s gonna fuck me up) and it left an impact on me! It’s a good series man. Just, not for everyone.

Minor Fandoms

Danganronpa- I used to be super big into it but now it’s more of a minor thing. Might rb some ishimondo stuff once in a blue moon but it’s not like, major fandom stuff

Persona 5- I enjoy the game and I’m gay for Futaba but I mostly rb shit for my bro!

FNAF- Hahaha yeah I like the robot furry horror game sue me

Sonic- used to not care about but my passion got reignited after I got over some stuff. I love these games even if Sega shits out charmless games nowadays. Sonic mania is ,,, good.

Various other anime and manga- Soul eater, promised Neverland, ect ect.

That’s what I’ll be posting! These aren’t in any particular order lmao

If you like dragonlance, I know a good discord chat?

rattle-dm-bones:

Consequences

Curbing murder hobos is a challenge presented to many DMs by inexperienced or disrupting players. To discourage your players, make them realize their actions in-game will have very real consequences for their characters.

For example, in the upcoming evil campaign, my players will be required to facilitate a covert drug deal. It’d be very easy for them to simply kill the buyers and take their money. If they did, what would be the repercussions?

Perhaps fellow criminals wouldn’t want to do business with them anymore. A rival in the criminal underground could turn them in to the authorities. Their superiors may even try to have them killed for trying to take matters into their own hands.

Make sure players know that everything, even the smallest choice, will affect the world around them.

I was running a game where the characters had been mistaken (for good reason) for murderers). One player insisted on staying and fighting the guards while the others had gotten the message and were set on running away.

I just told the errant player that if he stayed behind, I couldn’t help him. He wisely chose to follow the others and run.

The trigger warnings were there. But if they don’t want to look at the damage their community has done, maybe they shouldn’t be a part of that community. They’re not babies. Being a minor doesn’t spare them a wake-up call for what’s been going on in their community. Being a minor should spare you from sexual advances from adults. It should spare you from debt or extensive legal responsibility. It should spare you from being forced to work a job, or forced out on the streets. It should not spare you from being told you are making yourself part of a group that has told Jewish people to burn alive, queer people their identities aren’t real, survivors their abuse was deserved, disabled people they’re homebound, unwashed freaks who should wet themselves, and middle schoolers they should be raped.

You also literally missed the whole part where that entire post proved my point, because y'all threatened me with violence for speaking up against the abuse y'all have been perpetuating and normalising. No, not all anti antis ship problematic ships. Not all antis harass people. It’s about what the movement stands for. And the anti movement stands for censorship and fearmongering.

Just because you don’t understand why someone ships something, doesn’t mean you have to bully them. It really does come down to humans being afraid of what they don’t understand, doesn’t it?
