So, the trailer for 'Northern Lights' is finally out. It says a lot that despite the fact that it seems the filmakers are using the American title (Golden Compass *gag*), all I can think is SQUEEEEE!
Dear Gods, but that film looks amazing. Pullman's already dismissed one director due to differences of opinion (on which topic could that be? Hmmm *sarcasm*) so I'm guessing it's going to be pretty loyal. Nicole Kidman is a bit young for Mrs Coulter in my mind, but otherwise perfect, and dear Nuitari, that scene with the witches, I have got to see that.
The special effects haven't been completed yet, and what they have isn't very good yet, so I'm reserving judgement on that point. The bears look good though, and I am so looking forward to the fight between Iorek and Iofur it's not even funny. It's my favourite chapter in the trilogy.
So much squee, this looks like it's going to be up there with LoTR for great films, but whereas I was never a fan of Tolkien, I love Phillip Pullman.
Between Joey and I, we're going to see if there is any chance, any at all that we can see go to the London premiere. My dad knows a few people in the movie industry, so if he can...
The trailer's here, by the way.

Date: 2007-04-11 08:17 pm (UTC)It does look quite good though. Although I don't see why they couldn'nt have called it 'Northern Lights'. Why on earth did they change the book's title for the American market anyways?

Date: 2007-04-12 09:25 am (UTC)Currently reading Eldest (the sequel to Eragon) but once I've finished I may have to read the His Dark Materials trilogy again. Been a while since I read it. Shall have to poke my friend to give me my copy of The Amber Spyglass back. Currently reading Eldest (the sequel to Eragon).
Look up alethiometer on Wikipedia. Really good entry. It has a list of all the symbols and some of their possible interpretations.
