“But Liam Neeson apologized and admitted he was wrong and feels bad about it!” believe it or not this isn’t “I used to use gay as an insult sometimes to fit in in 2004 but I’ve grown and changed since then, I regret it, and now I’d never say something like that,” this is someone revealing that the only reason he hasn’t murdered a random innocent black person is that he couldn’t find one to kill before he thought better of it. “Sorry” isn’t going to be even close to good enough for that!
To people going ‘it’s good he spoke up about this’ like, there are ways of speaking up. He could have said ‘I’ve made snap judgements based on race before and I regret it’ or ‘I’ve said and done things in the past about race that I’m ashamed of’ and that would be fine.
It’s just that he thought it was okay to go out and go into all that detail to a reporter that’s just- too much, you know? Threats are as form of assault, legally speaking, and this is a threat because he is literally saying ‘I went out and tried to murder someone and no one did anything’.
It’s like by saying that he made a whole bunch of people feel that little bit more unsafe, and that’s way worse. If he wanted to get this off his chest he should have spoken to a therapist. Instead he made everyone responsible for his mea culpa.
