A “Trump presidency” is nothing new. If we don’t know our history, we’re destined to repeat it.
You’re right. We’ve always had racist presidents. But Trump is new. Trump doesn’t believe in democracy. Trump doesn’t want to be and never wanted to be president. At best Trump just wanted to prove a point and his ego wouldn’t let him bow out when he got in over his head. At worst Trump wants to be a dictator, a supreme leader with unchecked power. And the evidence that he used Russia to get there is mounting. On top of that, he can’t actually get anything done. The number of unfilled positions under a Trump presidency is unprecedented. He is both completely ineffective as a president and thoroughly effective at emboldening the racist extremists to action.
Do not try to normalize a Trump presidency as nothing new. Foreign influence is completely new, his incompetence is new, his penchant for inciting violence is new, and we need to acknowledge those facts.
