There are medical leeches!?
Yes! They work very hard to get their medical degrees.
not this one, though. this one’s trying to ditch class.
Real talk though, leeches came back into vogue when they were found to be exceptionally useful for relieving pressure build up on crush wounds and the like. Not terribly dissimilar from using maggots to debride necrotic flesh.
I believe they’re also used in research due to the anti-coagulant properties of their saliva. People use them in developing drugs against blood clots in strokes and heart attacks.
And sometimes people just keep them as pets.
