yeah, but there’s a few problems with that

- if the premise is that any exposure to sexual content will scar kids for life, then why aren’t we focusing on, like, floor-to-ceiling victoria’s secret ads at public shopping malls instead of “what if a child saw *shudder* a gay man in a dog collar”

- why would a kid who doesn’t know what sex is yet automatically associate a leash or a mask with sex

- a lot of those posts assume a level of explicit sexual interaction is happening at pride events that seems to be more based in stereotypes about ~disgustingly hypersexual gays~ than in anything that’s going on in the real world (the one pride I’ve been to reminded me more of, like….a particularly spirited farmer’s market)

- as a kid, I remember encountering a pretty fair amount of sexual, and even kinky, content–like those victoria’s secret ads, or any Sexy Lady character in kids’ cartoons, or that one sherlock holmes movie where he gets nonconsensually stripped and tied to a bed but it’s done by a woman so it’s played for laughs. As long as it was straight content, no one cared. So hearing “gay sexuality, specifically, is too disgusting and potentially scarring for you to even be allowed to know that gay people exist” didn’t make kid-me feel protected or safe. it was just one of my first encounters with Home of Phobia
