Despite having written an essay tearing a strip off of him in my first year in Cheltenham, I am feeling rather sympathetic to Isherwood right now. I suspect if I write anything about this completely insane summer, this will be the title. I mean, grief. What am I supposed to answer when I'll (inevitably) be asked 'So, how was your summer?"
"It was okay, I fought off a brainwashing cult, watched my brother storm out and learnt more than I ever wanted to know about neo-nazis. Oh, and ran off to europe for a month. How about yours?"
I can sort out my massively confused opinions about all this when I'm off trecking. Right now IAMACAMERAIAMACARMERAIAMACAMERA-

dear gods, kill me now.

We read Isherwood's Berlin Diaries back in school and I actually liked it. The characters were mostly annoying, but the mood was great. I started to hate it when we had to watch the musical/movie, though.

"X-D At least you weren't bored!

Apropos the Europe trip: anything more concrete planned so far? Just so that I can make my own plans accordingly, in case you still want to meet up either where I live or somewhere along the way. (Which would probably require your forgiving me for mistaking your run-ins with neo-nazis for you morphing into one. I hope you can try?)

Hey, I like Cabaret (although I spent most of it drawing Mengele and Orlando from confessions of a flesh Eater and was too busy loling at their antics to pay much attention to the movie)
Can you believe I was afraid I would be bored this summer? It's been insane. And on top of everything a whole army of new characters have crawled out of the woodwork.
Not really. I know I'll be in Hamburg for the 4th (big protest thing) but outside this, nada.

It would've been okay if they'd just stopped singing. And it wasn't like the book at all, which I tend to hate about movies anyway.

I'll be in Hamburg for the 4th

Of September? What kind of protest? Anon? If you don't hate me yet, I could come meet you there. It's not too far away and would spare you the detour over the countryside. (Though, remember, the Netherlands are closer to here. *ggg* And I'd enjoy showing you Münster.)
In any case it'd be good if you could tell me the eventual plans a little ahead of time. I won't be available the week after 22nd of September due to a uni excursion to Switzerland (yay!) and I wanted to go to Cologne for a week or so between finishing my current paper and said excursion, but I can plan that around you.

My trip ends on the 20th, so no clashes there. Yea, it's anon, and it would be cool if you could come. It's in the evening though, one anon's offered to put me up for the night.
Don't knwo abotu Cologne, as I said, I'll be pretty much making it up as I go along.

I can probably find a youth hostel if I know the dates ahead of time. In any case tell me of your plans as soon as possible.

Oh, I wasn't suggesting meeting up there. I'm only there to visit various relatives and maybe friends. Of course we could meet there, but I don't think there's much to see and it's not a pretty city, seeing as it was completely razed during WWII and rebuilt in an ugly modern style. (Münster has been rebuilt much more prettily and closer to the 16th ct original.) I was only asking so that I could plan that trip at a time when you're somewhere else anyway.

I also know I'll be going to Dusseldorf, if that's closer.

That's pretty much the same distance. Düsseldorf's a little closer but the train ride would cost me the same. But if you go from Hamburg to Düsseldorf directly, Münster is on your way anyway, so you could stop by.

Hmm, that's a point. I'll keep that in mind. So I'll probably be able to come either jusy before or just after, depending which way I end up going ;)
