Did Disney just reinstate James Gunn as director for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3’?

Yes. Yes, they did.

The next stage is little five minute flash dates. Eddie tries his best, but he finds himself glancing more and more often at the timer as the dates go on, and it starts to really sink in that there’s only one date he’s looking forward to.

After his third not-quite-so subtle check of the timer, Brunnhilde sits back in her chair and sighs. “You don’t need to worry, the Klyntar’s next.”

Eddie flushes because- okay, that was rude, and also- he really, really doesn’t want to piss off someone with muscles like that. “Sorry.”

“Strange to see one so far from home,” she muses, “the only ones who tend to travel are rogues- and they are much nastier.”

Eddie, damn him, perks up. “You know something about-” he breaks off because- yeah. Discussing another date with someone he’s supposed to be on a date with is- well, he’d probably deserve getting broken over her knee.

But he just gets a tolerant smile. “Some, not much, mostly in stories. The rogues are bad news, but this bunch-” she pauses, looks him up and down, something evaluating in her eyes. “When they find the right person, that can be special. Are you sure you’re not a warrior?”

Eddie blinks, “Uh, no. I’m a reporter. You know, Brock report?”

She shrugs, and the timer goes. “Well, that’s up to them. I’m sure you’ll find out when you bond.” She gets up.

Eddie starts up too, “Wait, what! Bond?”

But she just smiles and swaggers out- really, fuck Asgardians. The timer is stopped, the chair is pulled away and Eddie feels his heart rate pick up and- really? He’s really getting nerves over this? He quickly wipes his hands on his pants and sits up straight, trying not to look too eager as Venom is pushed in.

They are still in the same chair, and this close, Eddie can see that they are wearing- some kind of clear suit, a bit like a bubble. Some kind of environmental suit, Eddie realises, and can’t help but feel disappointed. He’d hopes they could- well, a kiss would have been nice to try, even with those teeth-

And he gets a full frontal view of those teeth as Venom smiles. Broad and wide and so utterly happy that Eddie feels something bright and warm light up inside him, and no matter how many or how sharp those teeth are- he doesn’t care.

“Hi,” it comes out a bit too soft, almost a whisper. “Nice to meet you.”

“Eddie.” Venom purrs his name like they’re savoring it. “We have come a long way to meet you.”

“I heard about it.” Eddie tries a smile, it comes out okay. “You come from- Klyntar, is that your world?”

“Yes- no.” They pause, hesitate. “We came from Klyntar, but we were not born there. We came one a comet, a long time ago.”

“Is that why- the suit?” Eddie waves at it. And Venom presses a tentacle against the plastic, it stretches around a tentacle, reaching out to Eddie, halfway across the table.

“Yes. The oxygen. It burns. But I wanted to come here anyway. Your planet is so beautiful, and I knew you would be worth the journey.”

Eddie’s mouth dries. He looks down at the tentacle, resting there, just a touch away. “Why me?”

“You are special.” Venom says simply. “I knew when I saw you. You felts right. I knew we would be right.”

“Right for what?” Bonding, Brunnhilde had said. Beside them, the timer is ticking down, and Eddie has no awareness of it. “There’s seven million people here, I’m nothing special.”

“You are for me.” And fuck but that should not feel as good as it did. “We would be so good, Eddie. You and I, Venom.”

And he should really be freaking out. It should be creepy, should be weird but- it isn’t. Maybe because Venom is so alien, everything is so strange that this is just- part of it. He swallows. “And if I say no?”

And Venom recoils, shrinking inside his suit. The tentacle starts to pull away, but Eddie reaches out and catches it in both hands, pressing it between his palms. It’s soft, firm and warm.

Venom stops, and the tentacle moves gently, stroking over his wrists. “Do you want to?” They say finally.

“No.” Eddie squeezes the tentacle gently. “But this is- a bit fast, for my people.”

“Oh.” Those huge white eyes blink and that is so adorable, it should be illegal. “What would you like to do?”

Eddie hesitates- and the timer goes. Fuck. “We’re not finished!” He snaps to the film crew about to wheel Venom away. “How about another date?” The tentacles winds around his wrist. “Maybe- without the suit?”

And another smile, huge and dazzling. “We can sort something out.”

plenty of people wiser & kinder & with more perspective than I have already weighed in on the new zealand terror attack, but I want to say something about the narratives I’m already seeing emerge online. I have seen multiple twitter threads, and even fairly major blogs, actually give airtime to “wondering” if the killer was a “troll” whose goal was “chaos.” I have seen the killer described in multiple places as “intelligent” but “deranged.” I have seen multiple people wondering if this was a “false flag” operation to generate “division” or if there is something hidden at work “behind” the attack.

these are white nationalist talking points. this is talk designed to create doubt about the fundamental connectedness of this attack to the attacks in pittsburgh, in quebec city. this isn’t a fucking movie, this isn’t “the dark knight,” there is no hidden puzzle here. the “reasoning” behind these attacks is not a fucking mystery, it is not a secret, it is clear and obvious: it is white nationalist hatred of immigrants, white nationalist hatred of jews and muslims, white nationalist hatred of any Other. it is a white nationalist terrorist’s desires to sow fear into the hearts of the groups they hate, and to encourage copycat violence. those are the goals, those are the reasons. anyone who says otherwise is HELPING THE KILLERS. anyone who says otherwise is undermining our ability to see this hateful violence clearly, and to organize against it.

we should understand too that the “audience” for these kinds of attacks is other white nationalists. THEY won’t mistake the killer’s motives. THEY won’t misunderstand this as some kind of “troll” operation. THEY know exactly why it was done, because they are linked by the same evil ideology. it is not new or unfamiliar or difficult to define. it is the same old, hideous ideology that the internet has given horrifying new recruitment tools.

if you encounter people repeating these ideas, “wondering” about them, be VERY suspicious. if you encounter people you care about repeating these ideas, try to set them straight. the internet is a place where people can go down many rabbit holes and become convinced of many illogical narratives (p*zzagate anyone??), but this one is deeply dangerous and needs to be clipped at the roots.

to be clear, i’m not saying that anyone who asks questions like these about the killer’s motives is a white supremacist. I am only saying that certain talking points are originating from there and being intentionally spread, and then they are being picked up and further spread by others who don’t necessarily have ties to white nationalism but are engaged in conspiracy theory forums, etc, and then outwards from there to folks who are no longer understanding the associations when they repeat them. until you have national news outlets referring to the killer primarily as a “troll” and “madman” instead of as a white supremacist who is firmly embedded into a white supremacist movement.

of course, it’s crucial to understand how the internet and troll/meme/forum culture is driving white supremacist recruitment and terrorism. but what white nationalists would prefer is that we keep treating their terrorism as isolated, “chaos” driven incidents, while in the meantime they continue to organize and work to drive their viewpoints to the mainstream. these attacks are not isolated and their ultimate goal is not chaos, it is genocide.

never forget that.

HELL YES

Guys, this is a huge thing. Unless you’ve seen a puppy’s mother, and where it was raised- you do not know if this dog has come from a puppy mill.

Puppy mills are basically battery farms for dogs. Dogs are bred and bred until their wombs fall out, then killed. Puppies are crammed into tiny cages, taken far too early from their mothers and exposed to all kinds of diseases. It’s the worst kind of animal cruelty and our fads for particular breeds of dog is only fueling this epidemic.

Please, unless you’re adopting from a shelter, make sure you’ve visited the breeder’s house and seen the conditions the dogs are living in. Anything else is most likely putting money in the pockets of those who abuse and brutalise animals.

Here is a great documentary on the subject, if you want to find out more:
