Probaby professional adventurer, like Indiana Jones. To be fair though, if askd I would put down as part-time on my CV.

Professional adventurer sounds very good! My own answer would be very similar: traveling private scholar/scientist, like all the famous 19th ct guys, Charles Darwin, Alexander von Humboldt etc. *sigh* The perks of not having to work for one's money.
