Okay. I know I haven't posted about it in this journal,  but it's a bit hard to narrow down when it happened and well, this journal tends to be more for fic and stree-relieving than RL. Anyway, to the point - I have met someone. He in lovely, kind, friendly and funny, we like a lot of the same things and he doesn't mind dressing as an SS officer in order to flog me (or me dressing as an SS officer and him as a Mossad agent for the same).

Anywho, we've known each other for over seven months now (actually getting together was a more fluid process that's harder to pin down), and I think I really ought to find some way of introducing him to aquintances.

Boyfriend? Ick. No. Apart fromt he fact that he is largely older than me, the word was spoilt to me forever since secondary school.

Partner? Makes me sound like a lesbian, which would be misleading.

Friend? Works for Past Tense, not for this. Unlike my characters, Iactually talk to people.

Significal other? Close, but a bit of a mouthful.

So, help. Anyone got any ideas? Everything sounds contrived or overlong. Any advice?

I hate the word 'boyfriend' myself, and 'partner' is a business term. Paramour is a classy reworking of the word 'lover'- but is uncommon.

How about Sweetie? (If he likes that term)

Good luck with that- English can be rather ticky in this department, I've decided.

He suggested Paramour after reading my entry, might go for that.

I'd just go with "the boy." Depending on conversational mention it can sound flippant, serious or scandalous - up to you.

He's in his 40s, 'boy' would hardly fit. But thanks ;)

'The other half' or 'himself' perhaps, although I also like (and use) sweetie :o)

I don't really have any advice, just can relate to the linguistic problem. In writing, my preferred term is the SO - much easier to type than "significant other", but in a conversation it doesn't work very well. Guess it's good I don't talk to people that much ;)

Oh and good luck with this :) I kinda figured that out, from the other journal... happy to hear that it's going well :)
