I've always been a bit meh about the Avengers. I never saw either Iron Man, or either Hulk, and only saw Thor because a) it was getting good reviews and b) it had made Stormfront shit their collective pants. So my only thoughts about Captain America were along the lines of 'lol, his costume's going to look so daft with those little wings growing out of his head'.

I am familiar with Cap, as anyone who wanders into the marvelverse will inevitably become. A weedy bloke who became part of a supersoldier program during WW2, was trapped in ice and reawoken in the present day (whenever that might be). I was never much taken by him, as he was too geekboy fantasy for me to really believe in him (I believe Magneto, so it's not as though my reality threshold is high or anything).

Anywho, long story short, I saw the trailer today and went 'you know, I kinda want to see this now.' That's a first for any Marvel movie that wasn't in the X-men francise, Basically, I though it would be set in the modern day, and have the whole WW2 thing set as flashback, probably with the emergance of his old foe the Red Skull into the modern world too. Instead, the whole things appears to be WW2, leaving the whole freeze-drying and revival for the Avengers sequel.

And you know? That is a pretty cool idea. I can rock WW2 (duh), and while postsurgery!Captain has bigger breasts than I have, he looks pretty cool. The costume is cool, it looks interesting, I can see myself enjoying this as much as Thor, and I liked Thor a lot.

And you knew this was coming.

It's got Nazi!campness up the wazoo.

You know Nazi!camp, it's the crazy shit style people use for Nazis in movies like this, the leather coats, the gas masks, the jackboots, the weird occult crap, the crazy machines. Indiana Jones had it (the good movies did anyway), Hellboy had it, I'm pretty sure you can pick ten thousand other movies who did it. As you know, I fucking love Nazi!camp and this looks like it's going to be the crowning jewel of Nazi!camp movies. For that alone, I'm going to watch it. Even if the Red Skull looks like he's wearing a rubber mask.

Also, shout out for another movie I was meh about but after seeing the trailer want to go see: Rise of the Planet of the Apes. I watched the first Planet of the Apes movie, liked it, guessed the twist the moment the guys got out of the shuttle, heard the others were pretty miss and didn't see them. This though looks good. It's weird because it's got something that in Avatar put me off it at once (no, not the face recognition thing with the CGI, that was good) the trailer basically told the whole story, and anyone who knows the first movie can guess the end. In Avatar, I didn't want to see it because I knew how it was going to go. in this, I still know, but there are enough empty spots that I want to see how they fill it.

So yeah, monkeys and Nazi!campness, bring it on.

Seems like we saw all the same movie trailers last night. Poor ole Captain America, the first thing I thought was BOOBS as well. I was only going to see it so I could see the Avengers (Tony Stark fangirl)... but then it all looked a bit Hellboy, and now I know I'll be going to see it for that now...

Are you going to the Holmesslash picnic next week?
