I'm currently unemployed, today, I was walking through my local area and saw a 'staff required' sign in the window of a kebab shop. I went in to ask about it, and was told 'We don't hire women'. I was stunned, tried to find out why, was rebuffed again, told them 'Glad to know you're rolling you your patties with your penis', and left. I came back later to get more info, and was ordered to get out of the store when I asked for the address. I told the same guy he was breaking the law by refusing to hire women, he told me he got a lot of Islamic customers, and didn't want to offend them by hiring women. I then demanded to speak to the manager. He told me he was the manager.

Who do I go to in order to report these people? Would suing them be an option?

You could report them. You *should* report them.

Suing them, however, is liable to be a clusterfuck, and expensive.

Although a part of me is wondering... Wouldn't food service be an acceptable role for a woman, given the "GB2 Kitchen" attitute of some Islamic men? Or does feminine disempowerment trump that?
