So last year, a band of phenomenal morons decided it would be really cool and extreme to burn a poppy on rememberance day. This being their sole original idea in a decade they've decided to do it again this year, and the Anti-Extremism Alliance is moving up to counter-protest, and hopefully to tell the reporters to move on and stop giving these idiots any of the media attention they would set their grannies on fire for.

10-12am Friday.

Agree absolutely although I still regret that the poppy people gave up producing white poppies for pacifists which means I have to put money in the pot and refuse a poppy, which always feels mean:o(

Re: white poppies, the Peace Pledge Union still have them available for order (I don't think the British Legion have ever officially sold white poppies, though they don't get sniffy about people wearing them). Bit late for this year, but you could stock up for 2012. :)

The Haig Fund (before it linked with the legion) did sell them for a while, but thanks for the info. I should have thought of the PPU!

Sometimes it's hard to be from a military family, a military historian and a Quaker pacifist, but such is my lot!:o)

I didn't know that about the Haig Fund - colour me newly educated!

(And oh, yes indeed. Walking oxymorons unite! :D )
