Was... not quite as good in some ways, and better in others.

Holmes: Oh my dear, I love you more and more every day. You really are becoming my idea of Sherlock Holmes, although you're still a bit too angsty, you're deliciously hyper and just don't get people in the most adorable ways. Now all you need to do is fuck Watson and my joy is complete.

Watson: Seriously, who are you? Apart from your desperate desire to get laid and mad adrenaline junkie rediness to rush after Holmes on almost everything, we don't learn much about you at all. Part of it is the fault of the books, the plot doesn't revolve around you there either, but as its your voice we're hearing you feel more than represented. In Granada they got around this by giving you a ton of Holmes' lines, and that worked beautifully. In this... I think you're meant to be a stand-in for the audience, although why they're giving you a love interest is beyond me. Although you're not an idiot they're skirting dangerously close to making you a butt-monkey for the show, and jesus fuck we've had enough of that to last lifetimes (which it did, fucking Rathbone).
You're my favourite character, always were. I should not be feeling closer to Holmes in this, but you just didn't feel like a character to me at all.

Love interest: WTF MOFFAT? I can't even remember her friggin' name! If you want her as a love interest then for pete's sake make her memorable. She had absolutely no place in the story except to play damsel in distress, and I cared about her so little that I thought 'you know, let her be shot. It'll make for more interesting storytelling and the fallout between Watson and Holmes would be way interesting'. She's a character! I should not be looking at her as a potential plot point and nothing else. I sincerely hope we never see her again, and not only because I ship slash. If you want a good female romantic interest, go read. It's called 'The Sign of Four'. I'll stay here while you finish it.

Plot: Okay, way better than the first. I mean, way better. It was sort of weird and all over the place, and it didn't feel like an easy tie in, but who cares? It had museums and graffitti and chinese circuses and Holmes getting throttled in a very sexy way (the more I love a character, the more I enjoy seeing them lying in a pool of thier own blood), and was clever and crafty and while I have no idea what Moriarty is doing dealing with them considering all they wanted to do was get a pin back, at least to the point of having the ringleader shot, OMG AIRGUN AIRGUN AIRGUN! YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST.
If that wasn't Moran behind the sniper rifle, I will eat Moffat's head.

So yeah, I liked, I didn't like, but the next episode is called 'Watson' so I still hold out hope.
