but also yes by the way??? tony taking responsibility is THE ENTIRE POINT OF HIS ORIGIN STORY. HIS ORIGIN STORY CAN BE SUMMED UP IN ONE WORD: ACCOUNTABILITY
he built iron man with the help of a man whose family died because of his weapons
so he became iron man to stop his weapons from hurting any more soldiers and any more innocent people
he escaped that cave and permanently shut down weapons manufacturing
maybe he should’ve known better but having his own captivity, torture and then assassination arranged by his father figure for the last two decades and the person he trusted most in the world is pretty fair karmic justice wouldn’t you say????

also: saying that tony would have noticed stane’s activities if only he’d stopped screwing around is absolutely ridiculous. this is a man who tony had known since he was a child, who emotionally manipulated him, who managed to fool tony and pepper and the entire board of directors of stark industries. calling alcoholism and manipulation “screwing around” is absolutely disgusting and jsut goes to show that some of you can’t actually pull up any reasons to hate tony except your own made up fantasies
If it’s Tony’s fault, then it’s AT LEAST as much Pepper’s and Rhodey’s too, as PA to the CEO and army liason respectively. Pepper is the one who gives Tony this sort of info, and Rhodey is responsible gor making sure the weapons SI produce actually go where they’re meant to. Stane hid it from all of them.
