Just realised that while I did call on Cormac McCarthy’s The Road a lot in my Fallout 4 fics/playthrough, the real inspiration is probably closer to Nick Harkaway’s The Gone Away World. It’s got the same sense of the new world being better than the last. Definitely a recommendation for those who want a funny apocalypse. I’m going to try rereading with nate in mind. I think he’d love it.
