The latest Kaiju sized bunny that ate my brain:

Exile

In which Hermann Gottlieb is not exactly human, and Newton doesn't mind at all.

Fucking hell, talk about shitty timing. I've spent the last three days nailed to my tablet because of this goddamn prompt:

There have been several cool prompts about Newt not being human, but personally I've always loved stories where the understated person is the inhuman one. Because what better cover is there than being so boring and stuffy that nobody would suspect your of having any otherworldly secrets? So, could we get some not!human Hermann stories going on here? Please?

So if anyone wants to Beta-read a really weird (but not Fic From Hell weird) Pacific Rim fic, please drop me a line. This is going to be YET ANOTHER series, albeit a more a managable one.

So yeah, anyone?

*no seriously, wtf is it with this fucking film, it's like the best thing ever and I've got two books, three posters already and I'm eying up more merchandise. It's like fucking crack*

A bit of Hermann Gottlieb/Newton Geiszler pre-slash. Because they're cute, and about as canon as any other romance in the movie.

Spoilers: the good guys win, whoop-te-do.

Honestly, I have to say I'm not surprised, and not particularly excited either. Over the last few years we've seen an emergance into the mainstream for fic writers, and the mainstream has been trying to tap our demographic for a while. This is just the latest incarnation of trying to make money off of fic writers. Remember the whole LotR fiasco when an archive site started charging a few years back? This is just more of the same.

The problem is that various entrepreners are eyeing the fanfic community and thinking 'here is a prime bunch of people with their hobbies, and no one is making any money out of it, if I can be the one to make fanfic start paying, I will be rich.'

And they'd be probably right, but I'm not sure Amazon has cracked it yet either. Most likely case scenario is that they'll be inundated with the worst from the Pit of Voles because I can speak from experience that the people who think their fanfic is teh awesome and totally publishable are sixteen years old and can barely spell.

Again, speaking from experience. Those were dark days.

And the more talented fanfic writers tend to be those more deeply imbedded in the community and thus less likely to want people to pay for their fic. There's a sort of honour system at play. It's also the reason why Katie Forsythe doesn't get paid for her writing, even though she really really really deserves to be.

For me personally it's a bit irrelevant, the only thing I'm writing at the moment is Fic From Hell, and there is no way I'm making the people at Amazon read that. That fic is too hardcore for anyone but kinkememe graduates and long-term dwellers of Ao3.

I was planning to have Erik's power being kept a secret from his family and have him be worried they'd find out about it and turn on him. But then I went LOL NO and had them find out about it straight off the bat because good luck hiding anything with this family and he's going to have a harder time hiding his MASSIVE CRUSH on Charles without adding mutant powers into the mix.

Thanks to Fic From Hell (which has hit a bit of a mid-Iron Man 1 block) just about everything's been on hiatus. But then I got on a Erik/Charles kick last night and went 'fuck it, this is my best work, it must be done'. So I wrote it and it has 13 year old Erik and Charles being cute and mutants and more than a little crushy in 1939 New York.

And it's kinda weird because this fic has Erik being the priviledged one with a crazy loving family and being kinda blind to how shit Charles' life is because he can't actually comprehend how anyone would neglect their children like that. And Charles being too proud and hurting to actually tell him and would rather educate Erik on the finer points of early American cinema and get him to cheat on slot machines in Coney Island.

Next chapter: September 1st, 1939. Dun-dun-DUN!
