So, I’ve been digging around in the Russian Revolution because I realised I don’t know much about it. So I’m going through a lot of videos and getting a fair idea of what the hell happened there.

And as I go through it, I am getting more and more pissed off on the behalf of one guy.

Now, I tend to get fairly sympathetic to most people in revolutions (not this guy though). I kinda wish Louis XVI had managed to clear out with his family because he was a nice guy and wouldn’t have been a bad king in a normal time. At the same time I’m finding it hard to sympathise entirely with the Tsar because holy fuck he’s dumb.

No, I’m feeling really pissed off on behalf of this guy:

I mean, bad enough you get poisoned, stabbed, shot, beaten up and drowned in the Volga, but 100 years later people are still trying to paint you as the bad guy.

After all the research I’ve done, Rasputin’s bad traits can be summed up as:

- He gave bad advice. (no shit, he had basically no education)

-He got drunk a lot (HE. WAS. RUSSIAN.)

-He visited prostitutes. (Okay, that wasn’t great but as far as we know none of them complained)

On the other hand, he was:

- A good friend to the Tsarina.

- very kind to the princesses.

- Basically the reason prince Alexei lived long enough to be shot in a basement.

Okay, people hated him at the time. Because reasons. But surely by this point mainstream history shows should have realised that ‘because reasons’ is not actually… a reason.

But noooo. Instead it’s all ‘the sinister influence of Rasputin’, ‘The Mad Monk’, and this pile of garbage (fuck you Don Bluth he was their friend).

And why was he hated so much? Well, sure; he was very close to the Tsar and Tsarina and some of his advice was suspect (the whole ‘please don’t go into WW1 thing was right on target though), and he did like to live in up when he got the chance. but the Russian court was full of drunk morons (hell, it was being run by one), so why this one guy?

Ohhhh….

A wealth of evidence shows that Rasputin was discredited by a fanatically anti-Semitic Russian society, for advocating equal rights for the severely oppressed Jewish population.

It always come back to this shit, doesn’t it?
