A funny thought about Israel

So Israel is grabbing up land with illegal settlements right, and as they do so it brings more and more Palestinian people into Israel. The more of them go into Israel, the less and less Jewish Israel is. How long will it be until the Jewish state isn't that Jewish any more?

One of the unpleasant little ironies is Obama arguing that it isn't the UN"s business. When it was the UN recognition of Israel (and ignoring of the people who lived there) that helped create this whole sorry mess.

Date: 2011-09-23 11:50 am (UTC)I'm almost certain you will. Which is truly frightening, since you'd think that a society virtually founded by direct-or-indirect Holocaust victims (at least that's what the history curriculum here says) would avoid treating other people the same way. Oh, wait, logic doesn't apply to human beings. *facepalms* Yay for robots...
It really depends on what you use to measure Jewishness, which is a great way of massaging statistics. Counting the population doesn't really make sense: shouldn't you add a multiplier that assigns more weight to people with more political influence? After all, they will decide what Israel does as a state. I don't suppose there's any chance of a moderate party forming government in the next elections?
(On a side note, I do wonder what would happen if someone teleported a whole lot of Totenkopf into 2010. With any luck they'd look at the history of Isreal and Palestine, go "Oh shit, we're acting like Israelis!" and immediately resign on their return home. Or not, but it's an interesting fanfic idea.)

Date: 2011-09-26 11:32 am (UTC)Yes, I did mean the Totenkopfverbände, not 3 SS Panzer Div., I was just too lazy to type it at the time. (And SS-TV often gets confused with SS-VT, so that's no good as an abbreviation either!) Do you know if anyone in the Totenkopfverbände actually tried to resign/protest/volunteer for duty on the Eastern Front? (This sounds like a good question for the Axis History Forum, but even there most of the stuff I read lumps them into a single group of war criminals.)

Date: 2011-09-27 08:38 am (UTC)The history of the TKV (does that work) is murky at best. Most of them ended up in the waffen ss anyway so far as I can work out, with camp guard duties being handed over to older men or those recuperating from injuries. Also lots of non-Germans recruited in for that kind of work. I imagine some did volunteer for the front and probably got what they asked for, there are also examples of front line staff being rotated back into the camp system for incompetence etc. Trouble is its hard to tell what camps and at what time, I'm not sure if it went on between the waffen ss and the Op.Reinhard camps for example. One fact that is often glossed over is that TKV personnel were used as reserves for the entire waffen ss, not just the 3rd divison, so the "reputation" of the 3rd division really should apply to most other units too.
