Tentative titled : In which Tony has a Horrible, No-Good, Very Bad week

Tony squints at the screen. The Helicarrier is collapsing into the Potomac. “Are they okay?”

“I cannot be certain. Ms Romanov has released a great deal of information on the internet and it is difficult to parse through it to recover current events. However, AIM appears to be involved, and have released a statement as to your death. They have kidnapped the President to aid with Hydra’s takeover. I believe the vice-president is involved.”

This is- a really stupid popcorn movie. He is living through a really stupid popcorn movie. And he’s in Heat.

So I am finally writing the SLR version of Iron Man 3. I loathe Iron Man 3, so 90% of it has been jettisoned. Fuck that movie.

We have AIM, we have Extremis, and we have Hydra because it makes only sense if the two are happening at the same time- president being kidnapped as part of Hydra’s coup, the incomprehensibly evil veterans are really Hydra agents, why the Avengers can’t help each other.

We have Pepper actually in a fucking suit for more than three minutes, we have Rhodey, we have the bots not dying, we have weird callbacks to earlier installments in SLR I deliberately set up in order to fuck you Shane Black and your Extremis shittying, Arc reactor removing, Pepper damselling, PTSD mocking crapfest of a movie.

Given that male/female gender is basically window dressing, traditional queer/straight preferences are treated like liking red haired people- a bit weird, but no discrimination.

My general rule with SLR is that it’s slightly more backwards than our world on equivalent gender/sexuality issues (it’s about the same on race). So being queer is only just starting to come into the mainstream. Being queer is more accepted, but it’s a lot harder to get your Bond recognised and there’s a lot of misinformation (see also- Clint being amazed two Omegas can bond).

As for the characters:

Tony- technically Bisexual, but he’s still too uncomfortable around Alphas to want to have sex with them.

Pepper: Straight (into Betas and Omegas)

Rhodey: Gay (likes Alphas and alpha-ish betas)

Steve: Bisexual.

Bruce: Gay/Lesbian (likes Omegas pretty much exclusively)

Thor: Doesn’t have ABO in Asgard so straight in the traditional terms.

Clint: Straight (likes Alphas)

Natasha: Bi/Pansexual (doesn’t care)

Coulson: Straight

I probably mentioned in passing, but Bucky was more then incidentally bisexual, and he and Steve had an almost-thing back in the day. The bots don’t have sexualities so I gueess Jarvis and co are Asexual?

I think in SLR Steve has the time to figure these things out. With Rhodey in charge he’s not nearly under so much pressure and can actually take time to consider things and deal with the world around him. Canon Steve always seems like he’s desperately making things up as he goes along and is terrified that if he shows any doubt at all, his world will fall apart.

(needless to say, Civil War in SLR is going to be VERY different)

As for what Steve would have said- it depends if the staff makes out say the worst thing you think about that person, or the worst thing you could say to that person.

If the former than probably nothing too bad- probably a lot milder that what he said in canon, since Steve actually likes Tony at that point in Avengers. Most likely about Tony being loud and brash and superficial and mostly showing off Steve’s own insecurities about the future.

Either way, nothing Tony would take too personally or hold against Steve. He’d have probably said way worse (remember, Howard held Steve up as a perfect human being, Tony had certain assumptions about the sort of person Howard Stark would consider perfect).

If it’s the latter- oooh boy.

And you thought Civil War was bad.

If the staff can read people’s minds enough to know what would set them off- Steve would probably have made some veiled reference that he wouldn’t really have understood about Tony deserving what happened in ‘91, and Howard being right about him.

And then Tony would have gone off like a hand grenade.

knightinironarmor:

1. consider the number of times tony has been personally insulted/accused (to his face) in canon

2. consider the number of times tony has been personally complimented/reassured (to his face) in canon

3. compare

4. cry

5. and do not hit me back with some shit about how The Crowds Love Him bc i can’t be bothered to have the argument about how that’s not the type of emotional validation someone like him needs

I swear if SLaR Tony was treated the way MCU Tony is… well, he’d have noped right off the team within a week and Jarvis would be in such a steaming rage that any electronic device the avengers touch would have a 50% chance of exploding.

what makes a hero a “hero”? someone who is selfless, and fights to protect the innocent because its the Right Thing To Do.

All of the heroes in CACW are ultimately ruled by personal loyalties and/or emotions. the only one who is motivated PURELY for the sake of peace and the people, AND because its the right thing to do? is Rhodey.

100% why I made Rhodey leader of Avengers in SLaR.

I say me, but Tony came up with the idea mid fic and it just made so much sense I went with it.

In the next Epilogue, Steve is very glad Rhodey’s in change because he’s the only one of them who’s stable.

Over the course of the next few parts of Sex Love and Robotics, Loki is going to be freeing his kids. It’s not really part of the story, just every time Loki goes to hang out with Tony he’s going to have them with him. Like one time he’s got this huge snake wrapped around him, next time it’s the snake and a wolf the size of a horse. The time after that it’s the wolf, the snake and a horse with eight legs that can barely fit inside the kitchen.

And Tony just shrugs and goes with it because his kids are all robots so he can hardly throw stones.
